5 Facebook Ad Mistakes

Facebook advertisements can provide significant benefits by increasing your brand awareness as well as boosting your sales. However, it is good to keep in mind that not all Facebook Ads are created equal. Sometimes a simple oversight can be the make or break to you receiving the results you desire.

We have listed 5 Facebook Ad Mistakes that you should be aware of –

1. Irrelevant Landing Pages

Where does your ad lead to? An engaging Facebook ad needs to be backed by a landing page that fulfils the promise of your initial promotion. When a potential customer clicks on your advertisement, they are engaged and are wanting to find out more. Not linking your ad to a relevant landing page is a common area we have seen many brands miss. So, ensure that your ad and landing page work in harmony as this is a key fundamental to achieve optimum results.

2. Constantly altering your campaign

Results are not always achieved straight away, but this is normal. Facebook uses machine learning in order to optimise maximum performance, measure the response of users and then adjust this accordingly. This is known by Facebook as the ‘learning phase’

The learning phase is the period when the delivery system still has a lot to learn about an ad set. During the learning phase, the delivery system is exploring the best way to deliver your ad set – so performance is less stable and cost-per-action (CPA) is usually worse. The learning phase occurs when you create a new ad or ad set or make a significant edit to an existing one”– Facebook for Business

It can take between 24-48 hours to see ad results and if you are impatient you may want to make quick and unnecessary changes. We recommend holding out for at least 48 hours before making any drastic changes.

3. Marketing to already converted customers

It is important to remind customers of your brand, but re marketing the same message to those who have already clicked may not be. If you have had success in converting a customer, they probably do not want to see the exact same ad appear in their feed multiple times. One way to avoid this is by excluding people who have purchased with you in the last month or have taken the relevant campaign action.  By doing this, your ads will reach new audiences who will in turn hopefully convert to paying customers.

4. Using the same ad types and not experimenting

It can become a habit to fall into repetition, especially when you have experienced a successful ad. It is important to keep in mind that different audiences respond to different things and therefore will engage with your ads differently. Experiment with different ad types, whether it be an image, video or testimonial you will experience different results with each ad type and therefore you will see what works for your brand.

5. Constantly running ads

Overexposure can also be seen as a downfall to your audience. Your audience may experience campaign fatigue by constantly viewing your ad therefore making it ineffective or even annoying to them. The best way to avoid this mistake is by creating a custom schedule for your Facebook ad campaign. This enables you to control when and how often your ads are running as well as targeting your ideal target audience at the right times.
