2020 Wrap Up

2020 has been a big year for all of us! Reflecting on the year that it has been, we look back at the top social media trends of the year and how they have businesses thriving!

1.TikTok

TikTok has really taken off in 2020!  It is now available in over 150 markets around the world, in 39 languages. The latest official statistics show that there are “500 million TikTok users around the world” (Business of Apps).  Brands have utilised TikTok to create user-friendly step by step videos, show behind the scenes footage and to showcase their products in a fun innovative way! Has been most successful for businesses targeting younger audiences.

2.Instagram Reels

Following a very similar, if not identically framework as TikTok, Instagram Reels is now available in over 50 countries, providing a fun and creative way for a business to reach its audience. Instagram Reels provides a 30-second recording limit, utilising effects, and filters. It has been a great way for new and existing businesses to provide an entertaining content through the already popular Instagram app.

3.Instagram Removes Likes

This was a big one! Instagram is considered one of the largest social networks, so it was huge news when they released news that Instagram likes would be no more. The removal of Instagram Likes was used to eliminate the social value of individuals. This impacted businesses as they could no longer measure the direct impact of their campaigns as easily, and it was encouraged that businesses invest in Instagram Ads.

4.Personalisation of Ads

Social media platforms, including Facebook, provided advanced targeting and new personalisation features for ad campaigns. It is crucial businesses use this feature to create the best customer experience for their consumers. Ad personalisation can be seen through Instagram Stories, Photos, IGTVs, Video and Instagram Shopping ads where icons will appear including ‘book now’, ‘learn more’, and ‘order now’.

5. Facebook Shops

Facebook’s newest tool: Facebook Shops has been designed to encourage businesses to grow their market via large social media networks including Facebook and Instagram. Through using Facebook shops, your customers can find, share and buy your products without leaving any of their social media platforms. This has ultimately transformed ecommerce.
